COVID 19 & American Presidential Elections – How to make America great again
COVID19 is turning out to be a greater killer of mankind than the World War II which claimed 8,000 American lives per month. COVID 19 so far, in just a span of a few months has claimed over 30,000 lives every month and the count keeps on rising and preventive measures and precautions continue to be neglected. If the neglect for the invisible enemy continues, soon COVID19 or the novel corona virus will become an inherent part of our lives and continue to claim lives on an ongoing basis. Living with death and disease looming over us will become a part of our everyday lives. War, which could be termed as an existential crisis claimed half the amount of American lives that COVID devoured in just a span of 8 months and yet it becomes difficult to drive a point to the majority of American masses that the invisible airborne enemy is a greater threat than bullets and bombs.
America as a nation has always stood for uninhibited freedom and unrestrained bravery, but when these two traits actually come in the way of preventive measures and precautions, it becomes a greater threat than the virus in the air. Despite round the clock news reports describing the severity and contagious potency of infection, especially through community transmissions, Americans have been taking this rather serious threat very lightly, doing everything that has been prohibited to deter contagious transmission, namely, — congregating in large crowds, refusing to wear masks, and in some instances coughing and spitting on healthcare workers requesting their kind co-operation. Further encouraged by leaders and eminent celebrities who belittle the seriousness of the virus, the sheer disobedience and defiance to precautions is becoming a greater risk to human life for majority of Americans. Not even the ferocious 9/11 attacks have been successful in driving horror, fear, and anxiety that Americans are feeling now under the threat of COVID19 and fellow American's absolute contempt for safety precautions.
It's hard to accept that the same set of complying Americans who had elevated themselves and the nation as a global example to follow due to the examples set forward by them, such as patiently queuing in an airport security check for hours at a stretch, undressing on command, are now exhibiting childish behavior in the name of right to freedom and courage. Outright refusing to wear a protective face mask and keep safe distance, thereby endangering the lives of other people, is a shame of an example to be passed under the name of freedom and courage. The world is watching as America sets yet another example, but this time probably they ill have second thoughts before following it. When medical experts and scientists all over could not emphasize more about the dire need for wearing face masks in public to prevent community transmission, and the world is uniting in its fight against this disease virus, America is surprisingly standing out with its action on observing the same. In the larger interests of the nation and of humanity, this is an unwanted example from world leaders.
